As you are well aware, the current market(s) have brought some of the toughest times that our Country has ever experienced, (most notably) in the Housing/Mortgage market. During late October 2008, I was doing the financing on a purchase for a client whose family was buying a home in Parkland, FL. I had 3 weeks to close this loan. During this 3 week period we saw rates increase in the fastest amount of time (that we have seen in the past 18 months). Rates actually almost got to the highest point of 2008. We actually had 5 consecutive days of Rate increases. Within 2 days of that, we saw the biggest Rate reduction that we have seen in 2 years. By the next morning, rates were back up again. Based on our forecast and market analysis, we are able to lock our client in at the exact time that rates were at the lowest since the client signed his contract.

When I went back and studied what we just did for our client, here is what we found out: During that 3 week period, our window to get our client the best rate available was only 3 hours. As soon as we got to the highest point (best rate), the momentum was gone and rates started to deteriorate.
